Just last week we were all playing with ChatGPT’s new Dots. Then on 13 October, Google dropped Gemini 4 Argon into the Gemini app. It’s Google’s first new Gemini generation since Gemini 3, and on paper it’s a monster. So is Gemini 4 Argon in Pakistan worth paying for? Let’s break it down.
But there’s a catch: it’s only for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. So the real question for us in Pakistan isn’t “is it good?” It’s “is it worth my rupees?”
1. What’s Actually New
Google DeepMind announced Argon on 30 September, then rolled it into the Gemini app on 13 October. Here’s what matters for normal users:
- Straighter answers: Google says it hedges less, repeats less and uses fewer clichés. If you’ve ever had to dig through three paragraphs of “great question!” to get an answer, you’ll get why this matters.
- Tasks mode: A new toggle switches Gemini from chat to tasks, so it keeps working after you close your laptop.
- 40+ app connections: It now works with apps like Adobe and Shopify. That last one matters if you run an online store.
- Better coding: Upgraded coding, plus easier switching to Google’s Antigravity agent on Mac.
- Huge memory: A 1-million-token context window. In plain English, you can throw an entire thesis or a year of client emails at it.
On the independent Vals Index it ranked #1 of 41 models. It’s weakest at controlling a computer for you.
2. The Paywall: What Gemini 4 Argon in Pakistan Costs in PKR
This is where the excitement cools down.
- Free Gemini: No Argon. Google only lists it for paid plans.
- Google AI Plus (about Rs1,400/month when it launched here): Google’s announcement doesn’t list Argon for Plus either.
- Google AI Pro (about Rs5,600/month): The cheapest plan with Argon. You also get 2TB of storage.
- Google AI Ultra (about Rs70,000/month): Only if you’re running an agency or you’re very rich.
Rs5,600 a month is roughly Rs67,000 a year. For a lot of Pakistani households, that’s a month’s rent.
3. Who Should Actually Pay
- Pay if: You’re a freelancer billing in dollars and Argon saves you even two hours a week. It’ll pay for itself.
- Pay if: You already pay for Google One storage. Pro bundles 2TB, so the real extra cost is smaller.
- Skip if: You’re a student who mostly needs essays checked and topics explained. Free Gemini and free ChatGPT are still plenty.
- Skip if: You’ll use it twice a month to make a CV. That’s Rs5,600 for two CVs.
4. Gemini Argon vs ChatGPT: The Pakistani Reality
The benchmark wars are close. Argon wins some tests, OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra wins others. For most of us, the deciding factor isn’t benchmarks. It’s where you already live online.
- Gmail, Docs and Android all day? Gemini fits into your workflow with zero setup.
- Built your prompts and Dots around ChatGPT? Switching costs you time. Time is money.
- On a tight budget? Pick one paid tool, never two. Paying for both is the AI version of having two Netflix accounts.
Verdict
Gemini 4 Argon is probably the smartest model you can use in an app right now. At around Rs5,600 a month, though, it’s a business tool, not a toy. If it makes you money, pay for it. If it just makes you feel modern, stay on the free tier and spend that Rs67,000 on something that actually earns you more.
Would you pay Rs5,600 a month for Gemini Argon, or are you sticking with ChatGPT? Let me know in the comments!
