For years, retired government employees and EOBI pensioners across Pakistan have faced a grueling, biannual ordeal. Every March and September, elderly citizens were required to physically visit bank branches to provide biometric “Proof of Life” just to keep their pensions running. For many facing mobility issues or fading fingerprints, this manual process caused immense anxiety, delays, and unjustly suspended accounts. Thankfully, the Ministry of Finance has officially abolished the paper-based and bank-dependent pension verification system. Under the new digital rules introduced in September 2026, the entire process has been shifted online. Here is how to complete pensioner biometric verification from the comfort of your home using a smartphone.
How to Complete Pensioner Biometric Verification
1. What Are the New Rules?
Before diving into the steps, it is important to understand the recent changes made by the federal government and the Controller General of Accounts (CGA):
- No More Bank Visits: Banks will no longer ask pensioners for physical life certificates or biometric scans.
- Flexible Six-Month Rolling Cycle: The rigid March and September schedule is gone. You simply need to verify digitally once every six months from your last verification date.
- Automatic Suspension: Pension accounts will no longer be permanently declared “dormant,” but your payments will be suspended if you fail to verify digitally for six consecutive months.
2. The Step-by-Step Verification Process
To complete the “Proof of Life” verification, the government is utilizing NADRA’s existing digital infrastructure.
1.Download the NADRA Pak ID App:Available on Android and iOS.
Navigate to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and search for the official NADRA Pak ID application. Ensure you are downloading the official app published by the National Database & Registration Authority.
2.Register or Log In:You need a valid CNIC.
Open the app. If you have not used it before, you will need to create an account using the pensioner’s 13-digit CNIC number, a valid mobile number, and an email address. If an account already exists, simply log in.
3.Select Pensioner Verification:Select the dedicated pension service.
Once logged in, navigate to the services menu. Look for the newly integrated “Pensioner Verification” or “Proof of Life” tab. The system will automatically fetch the pensioner’s data from the CGA database linked to their CNIC.
4.Complete Biometric / Facial Scan:Good lighting is required.
The app will prompt you to capture biometrics.
- Fingerprint Scan: Use your smartphone’s rear camera to scan your fingers exactly as instructed on the screen (the app will guide you on how to place your hand in front of the lens).
- Facial Verification: Alternatively, the new system includes facial recognition. Look directly into the front camera in a well-lit room and follow the blinking or head-movement prompts to confirm liveliness.
5.Submit and Confirm:Verification is shared automatically.
Once the scan is successful, submit the verification. You do not need to print or email this to anyone. NADRA’s system will automatically send the digital certificate directly to the CGA office, ensuring your monthly pension is directly deposited into your bank account without interruption.
3. What If the Smartphone Scan Fails?
Fingerprint ridges naturally fade with age, which can sometimes cause the mobile camera scan to fail. If you are unable to successfully complete the scan via the Pak ID app after multiple attempts, you will still need to visit your nearest NADRA e-Sahulat center to complete the verification via their dedicated biometric machines.
Verdict
This digital integration is a massive win for public service efficiency. By utilizing the NADRA Pak ID app, the government has restored dignity to the retirement process, ensuring that the country’s senior citizens no longer have to endure exhausting bank queues just to claim their hard-earned money
