Gaza Girl Rescued From Fire: Maryam Ghanem Survives an Isr*eli Strike

Gaza girl rescued from fire: Maryam Ghanem survives an Isr*eli strike

This is the story of the Gaza girl rescued from fire. At around 4am on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, an Isr*eli strike hit a family flat in al-Rimal, western Gaza City. Within minutes the flat was on fire. Inside was a little girl named Maryam Ghanem, and her mother, Reem Asaad Awad, 33.

Maryam came out alive. Her mother did not.

This happened a full year into what the world calls a “ceasefire”. If you saw the video, you won’t forget it. If you didn’t, that is exactly the problem.

1. What Happened at 4am in al-Rimal

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights says an Isr*eli helicopter struck the flat at about 3:48am. The fire spread fast, and civil defence crews couldn’t reach the flat at first.

2. Gaza Girl Rescued From Fire: The Journalist Who Ran In

Palestinian journalist Ali al-Jaafrawi was at al-Shifa Hospital when he heard the blast. He ran to the building, went into the burning flat and found Maryam in the smoke. He carried her out and handed her to people outside, who rushed her to hospital.

Then he went back in for the others. The smoke knocked him unconscious. He later said he saw a woman on fire inside.

Remember this the next time someone asks why Gaza’s journalists matter. Isr*el still won’t let foreign reporters into Gaza, and the Committee to Protect Journalists counts 247 Palestinian journalists killed. The man who saved Maryam is one of the few people left to tell the world what’s happening.

3. “I Want My Mum”

Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha visited Maryam in hospital. She told him her body hurt, that there was “a lot of fire”, and that she wanted her mum.

Her grandfather told Middle East Eye that mother and daughter “did nothing wrong.” He’s right. A woman asleep at 4am and her toddler are not a military threat by any definition.

And Maryam is not alone. UNICEF says more than 56,000 children in Gaza have lost at least one parent in this war.

4. A Ceasefire in Name Only

The ceasefire was signed in October 2025. Since then, Gaza’s Health Ministry says Isr*eli violations have killed 1,498 Palestinians and injured 5,306 more.

So when you hear “the war is over”, ask Maryam’s family what that means.

5. The Silence Is Part of the Crime

CBS posted the video. Al Jazeera ran it. But Common Dreams found that most big US networks barely touched it. Historian Assal Rad put it bluntly: if the girl were Isr*eli, the image would be on every front page.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations asked US Congress members to condemn the strike by name. By Wednesday night, not one of them had said a word publicly.

The Bitter Truth

Maryam survived the fire. Now she has to survive a world that already looks away. No apology, no evidence, no accountability, just a promise to “investigate” that we’ve heard thousands of times before.

The least we can do is say her name: Maryam Ghanem. Share her story. Don’t let a 4am strike in Gaza vanish because it didn’t make a Western headline.

Would the world be this quiet if Maryam were someone else’s child? Let me know in the comments!
