1. The Exhausting “Angry Alpha” Trope
Pakistani drama audiences are growing increasingly tired of seeing Danish Taimoor typecast in the exact same role. In Humrahi, he plays Sayhaan Ghazi, a wealthy, gun-toting, protective “alpha” living in the shadow of his mafia-esque father, Ghazi Yusuf (brilliantly portrayed by Shahzad Nawaz).
While Taimoor consistently delivers intense performances, the formula of a volatile man falling for a principled woman feels incredibly repetitive. The sprawling estates, heavy security details, and aggressive posturing felt like a direct rehash of his previous hits, offering no fresh character development for the actor or his audience.
2. Medical Inaccuracies and Absurd Twists
Written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah, the script severely underestimated the intelligence of its viewers. The storyline surrounding Elif, who is a doctor herself, was riddled with bizarre medical inaccuracies and logical gaps that made the narrative hard to digest.
When the show killed off Elif midway to introduce Hiba Bukhari’s double role as Ilham, the plot lost its footing completely. Viewers were forced to endure dragged-out episodes filled with unnecessary misunderstandings, while the actual progression of the story ground to a halt.
3. A Traumatic and Rushed Finale
The biggest offense of Humrahi was its ending. After stretching the narrative for 40 episodes, the makers concluded with a rushed, traumatic bloodbath.
In the finale, just as Ilham confesses her love, Sayhaan refuses to marry her for the sake of his revenge against the rival gang leader, Lala (Ayub Khosa). Within minutes, the entire gangster era is wiped out. Sayhaan suffers a tragic fate, getting shot three times in the chest and dying in Ilham’s arms. Viewers took to social media to express their absolute anger, noting that dedicating weeks of their time just to watch the protagonist die a pointless death was the exact opposite of entertainment.
Verdict
Humrahi serves as a prime example of how stellar production values and a star-studded cast cannot save a weak, formulaic script. It leaned far too heavily on aggressive tropes and forced tragedy, ultimately wasting the massive potential of its lead actors.
