Pakistani drama report card: TV in 2025 was a rollercoaster. We saw the return of the “Big Guns” (Humayun, Mahira, Wahaj), the rise of Green Entertainment as a serious contender, and sadly, a lot of expensive disasters.
As the year ends, it is time to hand out the report cards. Here are the 3 dramas that saved our screens, and the 3 that made us want to throw our remotes at the TV.
THE HITS (The Ones We Loved)
1. The Masterpiece: Main Manto Nahi Hoon
- Network: Green Entertainment
- Starring: Humayun Saeed, Sajal Aly, Sanam Saeed
- Verdict: 10/10 This was the risk of the year, and it paid off. Humayun Saeed finally stepped out of his “romantic hero” comfort zone to play a complex, flawed writer fighting censorship and his own demons. The chemistry with Sajal Aly was electric, but not in a cheesy way—it was intellectual and raw. Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s script (love him or hate him) was sharp, poetic, and arguably his best work since Meray Paas Tum Ho.
2. The Blockbuster: Sunn Mere Dil
- Network: Geo Entertainment
- Starring: Wahaj Ali, Maya Ali
- Verdict: 8/10 (For the Vibes) Was the story groundbreaking? No. It was a classic “rich boy falls for determined girl” saga. But the execution was pure magic. Haseeb Hassan (director of Alif) made every frame look like a painting. Wahaj Ali proved he can carry a show even when the script drags, and seeing him reunite with Maya Ali gave us the nostalgic Jo Bichar Gaye vibes we craved. It was the “comfort food” drama of 2025.
3. The Critical Darling: Jo Bichar Gaye Season 2
- Network: Geo Entertainment
- Starring: Wahaj Ali, Maya Ali, Talha Chahour
- Verdict: 9/10 Sequels usually suck (see below), but this was perfect. Shifting the focus from the fall of Dhaka to the political turmoil of the late 70s was a bold move. It didn’t have the mass appeal of a Tere Bin, but the storytelling was nuanced, painful, and necessary.
THE FLOPS (The Ones We Regret)
1. The Disappointment: Tere Bin Season 2
- Network: Geo Entertainment
- The Problem: You can’t manufacture magic in a lab.
- Verdict: 3/10 We waited two years for this? The writers clearly didn’t know what to do with Murtasim and Meerab after their happy ending. The plot felt forced, the “jealousy tracks” were repetitive, and the new villains were cartoonish. It broke viewership records, sure, but it broke our hearts in the wrong way. It felt like a cash grab, not a story.
2. The Horror Experiment: Dayan
- Network: [Various]
- The Problem: Bad VFX and worse acting.
- Verdict: 2/10 2025 was the year Pakistani TV tried “Supernatural Horror,” and we hope they never do it again. Dayan was supposed to be scary; instead, it was hilarious. The CGI looked like a Snapchat filter, and the plot holes were bigger than the “haunted” house. Please, let’s stick to family politics.
3. The Generic Mess: Humraaz
- Network: ARY Digital
- The Problem: We have seen this 1,000 times.
- Verdict: 4/10 Two sisters, one toxic cousin, a misunderstanding, and 40 episodes of crying. Humraaz had a great cast (Omer Shahzad, Durefishan), but they looked bored. It was a “filler” drama that somehow got prime time slotting. A massive waste of budget that could have been used for something original.
