Two months ago, AI “agents” were just chatbots with extra steps. Now both xAI and OpenAI want to give you an AI employee that works 24/7. xAI (now branded SpaceXAI) launched Grok Bot in August. OpenAI answered with ChatGPT Dots at the end of September. Same promise, very different approach. If you’re a freelancer or run a small agency, you can’t afford both. So which one is it? Let’s have a look at the Grok Bot vs. ChatGPT Dots comparison:
Grok Bot vs. ChatGPT Dots
What Exactly Is Grok Bot?
Grok Bot is a team of AI agents, not just one. Each Bot has a name, a role, and its own memory. They share one cloud computer and log into your apps the way a human would. Show a Bot a task once, and it saves it as a routine.
The big advantage: X. Since August, Grok Bot works with X, so it can search posts, track your mentions, and pull trends in real time.
What Are ChatGPT Dots?
Dots are OpenAI’s always-on agents, running on GPT-6 Astra. You get one Dot with its own cloud computer. It keeps working after you close the chat and reports back on Slack or Teams.
The big advantage: control. You can set rules for every action: do it, ask first, or hand it back to you. For anything that touches client accounts, that matters. (I covered Dots in detail in my earlier post.)
Head-to-Head
- Autonomy: Grok gives you a squad of Bots. Dots give you one, more carefully supervised.
- Integrations: Both connect to thousands of apps. Dots add Slack and Teams. Grok adds X.
- Real-time data: Grok wins outright, thanks to X.
- Price: Grok Bot comes with SuperGrok at $30 a month (about Rs. 8,300). Dots need ChatGPT Pro at $100 a month (about Rs. 27,800).
Who Should Pick What?
Freelancers: Grok Bot. Rs. 8,300 vs Rs. 27,800 is a no-brainer when you earn in dollars but spend in rupees.
Content creators: Grok Bot. If X is your main platform, a Bot that tracks trends and mentions every morning is basically a free social media assistant. Just note it can’t post for you yet.
Digital agencies: Dots. When you’re handling 20 clients’ ad accounts, one bad automated email can cost you a client. Dots’ approval rules are worth the extra money.
Verdict
Grok Bot is the better deal. Dots are the safer bet. Start with SuperGrok for a month, and if you need tighter controls for client work, upgrade to Dots.
