Performance-wise, the leads carried the heavy emotional burden well. Sajal Aly was flawless as Rabiya (Biya). Her ability to convey deep grief and inner conflict—especially during her breakdowns and confrontations—reminded audiences why she is one of the best actors in the industry. Similarly, Danyal Zafar showed significant growth as Sarbuland Hayat Khan, maturing into the intense, poetry-reciting Sardar who faced a lifetime of losses. Their final tearful reunion, complete with a perfectly placed OST, gave hardcore shippers the exact emotional payoff they were waiting for.

Zanjeerain Drama Story: A Tangled Narrative

Despite the strong performances, the overall story buckled under its own weight. The drama spent too much time wandering through repetitive flashbacks and prolonged grieving. Even in the final episode, the heavy reliance on the memories of their dead ex-partners (Mudassir and Bano) felt overwhelming. While honoring the past makes sense for a forbidden love trope, it dragged the pacing down when the audience just wanted the main couple to move forward.

The finale felt less like a cohesive wrap-up of a complex political and social saga, and more like a rushed attempt to tie off loose ends while shoving in as many commercial breaks as humanly possible.

The Core Issue: Torsam’s Unearned Redemption

The biggest misstep of the finale—and the one dominating social media discourse—is the handling of Torsam.

Throughout the drama, Torsam was established as a deeply problematic, antagonistic force. He was toxic, manipulative, and responsible for immense trauma. Yet, in the final act, the writers opted for a sudden, jarring whitewashing of his character. Instead of facing genuine consequences for his actions, Torsam was handed an unearned redemption arc to neatly tie a bow on the family dynamics.

Redeeming abusers and toxic characters without showing any real accountability or growth has become a frustrating epidemic in Pakistani television. By choosing to whitewash Torsam just to force a “happy family” conclusion, the writers undermined Rabiya’s entire struggle and left a bitter taste in the audience’s mouths.

Verdict

Zanjeerain had the cast, the budget, and the scenery to be the drama of the year, but a weak final act proved it couldn’t pull its ambitious threads together. If you are a die-hard Sajal Aly fan, the final confession scene is worth watching—but the problematic handling of its villains makes the overall journey a frustrating one.
