When HUM TV announced the lineup for Zanjeerain, the hype was absolutely off the charts. Pairing the powerhouse talent of Sajal Aly with fan-favorite Ameer Gilani, while throwing Danyal Zafar and Ahsan Khan into the mix, felt like an automatic recipe for the biggest drama of 2026. But as the show pushes past its initial setup phase this May, the massive expectations are starting to crash into a very harsh reality. Having a brilliant cast does not excuse a painfully slow, formulaic script. Here are is the initial review of Zanjeerain.
Zanjeerain Initial Review
1. Great Acting, Wasted Potential
There is no denying the acting caliber on screen. Sajal Aly, as always, brings a profound depth to her character. Her micro-expressions and ability to convey trauma through silence are unmatched. Ameer Gilani is charming, and his chemistry with Sajal is genuinely the only thing keeping the audience invested.
But what exactly are they acting out? The plot feels like it is moving in quicksand. We are multiple episodes in, and the central conflict is still entirely obscured by long, dramatic stares and repetitive drawing-room arguments.
2. The Tropes Are Exhausting
We were promised a fresh, gripping narrative, but Zanjeerain is heavily leaning on the same exhausted tropes that plague modern Pakistani television: the overbearing patriarchal figure, the silently suffering female lead, and the inevitable, dragged-out misunderstandings.
Danyal Zafar’s character feels highly underutilized, often popping in just to deliver exposition rather than actually driving the narrative forward. When you have an ensemble cast this strong, wasting them on generic family politics is a massive missed opportunity.
Verdict
Zanjeerain looks beautiful, and the lead actors are acting their hearts out, but the script is severely letting them down. If the pacing doesn’t pick up dramatically in the next two weeks, HUM TV risks turning what should have been the blockbuster of the year into just another beautifully shot background noise.
