Pak vs Ban Test Series: Shanto’s Century Exposes Pakistan’s Bowling Woes

If you thought Pakistan’s transition back to red-ball cricket was going to be a smooth ride, Day 1 of the 1st Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium just handed us a brutal reality check. May 8, Pakistan won the toss and made the bold decision to bowl first on a pitch that looked like it might offer some early morning assistance. By the time stumps were called, that decision looked highly questionable. Pak vs Ban test series is not off to a good start.

Pak vs Ban Test Series

1. The Shanto and Mominul Masterclass

Bangladesh finished Day 1 in a commanding position at 265/3. The absolute star of the day was Najmul Hossain Shanto, who played a captain’s knock, striking a flawless 101 runs off 130 balls. He was aggressive, technically sound, and completely neutralized Pakistan’s pace attack.

He was perfectly supported by Mominul Haque, who grinded out a stubborn 88 off 193 deliveries. The duo built a massive partnership that drained the energy out of the Pakistani fielders in the humid Dhaka heat.

2. Pakistan’s Toothless Attack

The bowling scorecard makes for a tough read. Shaheen Afridi (1/65) and Hasan Ali (1/49) managed to secure early breakthroughs, but once the ball lost its shine, the attack looked completely devoid of ideas. The spin department, led by Noman Ali, failed to exploit any rough patches, allowing the Bangladeshi batters to rotate the strike with frustrating ease.

Verdict

As we head into Day 2, Pakistan is firmly on the back foot. Unless Mohammad Abbas or Shaheen can produce a magical spell with the second new ball tomorrow morning to clean up the tail, Bangladesh is eyeing a massive first-innings total. The Pakistani batters will be under immense pressure when they eventually walk out to the middle.
